Lombard Middle School 5th Grade students were part of over 500 Knox County area students who spent the day at Lake Storey for the 35th Annual Ken Russell Outdoor Education Day.
After a few days of warmer temperatures in the area, today was a beautiful day to spend outside with over 50 volunteer presenters. Students rotated to different stations that included insects, nature, weather, fishing, and more.
When speaking to Lombard students after, there was no question as to what their favorite station was. Fishing, unanimously, was their favorite part of the day. Students were catching fish and enjoying the opportunity to cast their lines into the water.
The event is named after the late Ken Russell who was a longtime Illinois Department of Natural Resources State Fish Biologist. His legacy lives on in the experience this day provides students in Knox County.
