This month, our character focus has been Perseverance and our students have embraced it in powerful ways.
During school-wide class meetings, students explored what it means to keep going when something feels hard. Our principal had the opportunity to share our behavior, academic, and attendance data, reminding students that growth happens step by step and effort matters just as much as outcome. We also talked about legacy - the story each student is writing every day at Lombard.
Headlines are being written…
So let’s make those headlines positive.
To bring this message to life, we connected perseverance to lyrics from “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus — reminding students that success isn’t always about reaching the top, but about choosing not to give up along the way.
Perseverance in Action
Nothing says perseverance quite like trying to stack cups… while wearing oven mitts!
Students and staff took on the challenge together, cheering each other on through laughter, frustration, and determination. Cups toppled. Attempts restarted. But through it all, our Zephyrs did what Zephyrs do best — they kept trying. The gym echoed with encouragement, high-fives, and celebration. Most importantly, no one gave up.
Perseverance isn’t just a character trait — it’s alive in our classrooms every day.
📚 ELA students are designing complex plot diagrams while reading Two Degrees, a multi-character novel that requires high-level thinking and deep discussion.
🔬 Science classes are exploring thermal energy — ask your child which materials keep water cold the longest! You may be surprised by what they’ve discovered.
➗ Math students are strengthening problem-solving skills through long division with multi-digit numbers, applying persistence as they work through challenging computations.
🎵 And in Zephyr Time, students are creating personal mix tapes — soundtracks that celebrate who they are as individuals, what motivates them, and what keeps them moving forward.

At Lombard, we are Zephyrs Powered by Possibilities.
And this month, we’ve proven that when the climb gets steep... we rise together.
Here’s to continuing the climb. 🚂💚💛
