Lombard Middle School Students

Lombard Middle School 5th Grade Students spent the day at Lake Storey today at the Ken Russell Outdoor Education Day.  Although the sky looked like rain at a few points throughout the day, the weather was perfect for everyone to enjoy all the outdoor activities and lessons.

Students were divided into groups and went to different stations to learn about various topics including Butterflies, Bees, Nature, Aquatics, and More.  Although no official survey was taken, the fishing station was one of the favorite spots throughout the day. They were able to learn about fishing before getting the opportunity to cast a line into Lake Storey to try their luck at catching a fish.

The event is named in honor of the late Ken Russell, a longtime Illinois Department of Natural Resources State Fish Biologist who volunteered his time to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with kids from multiple counties. The event wouldn't be possible without the numerous volunteers who are present for the day sharing their knowledge and interests with the students.

The Regional Office of Education #33 makes the event possible for all area 5th-grade students to attend and enjoy the outdoors.
