Galesburg News

Dear CUSD #205 Parent/Guardian,

Thank you for your continued patience during this pandemic. As with all our work, student and staff safety is our highest priority.  We believe that the time has come for our district to make an important decision.

Churchill Junior High students and staff will move to Remote Learning beginning on Monday, May 17, 2021. The switch to Remote Learning will last through Sunday, May 23, 2021. This decision was not made lightly and was made with the cooperation of the Knox County Health Department due to the recent uptick in positive COVID-19 cases in the building.

Students are scheduled to return to school on Monday, May 24, 2021. Beginning on Monday, May 17, 2021, students will log in to their google classrooms for instruction. The instructional schedule will remain the same for all students. If a student has technology needs, please contact the Churchill office for assistance.

Meal pick-up will be available Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at GHS, West Circle Drive.

Great care and research went into this decision; however, we regret the hardships this will cause for some of our families. At this time, we believe that is the right step to take for the health and safety of our families, employees, and the community at large — especially to protect our students and employees who are immunosuppressed or at greater risk due to age and other reasons.

At this time, the school closure is only for Churchill Junior High. We will continue to monitor the number of COVID-19 positive cases at the PreK-8 schools and make any decision regarding these schools if the need arises.

The contact tracing that has been completed has determined that the cases in our schools are not originating within the school setting but are originating from students’ social interactions outside of the regular school day. We encourage you to be vigilant when it comes to the safety measures to mitigate the COVID-19 virus in our school community. We continue to stress to students, parents, and families the need to wear face masks, practice social distancing, avoid gatherings, staying home when ill, getting tested, and if eligible, getting vaccinated.

Thank you so much for your continued patience and support.
